OUT OF OUR ELEMENT with Dan Malossi and Lauren Roedy Vaughn

LRV: Genesis: “Donnie, you’re out of your element…”

And so we’re here! Welcome.

We’re out of our element…which is exceedingly uncomfortable for me but somewhat exhilarating for Dan. (You may catch a whiff of glorious tension behind the scenes…)

Our element is fiction. We create characters and put them in tough, hopefully funny situations. We sit back and watch what happens.

DM: Which doesn’t make us particularly unusual! Just trying to give you a little window into what is now a 5-6 year meaningful working relationship. (I enjoy carefully-chosen italics.)

We’re two people, living different lives, on opposite ends of the country. But we text a lot. And we care about meaningfulness. 

We’re both educators. So, lesson #1 on meaningfulness: Write what you mean. 

LRV: So, let’s all be mindful and meaningful out there…and on the page. 

We very much enjoy that you’ve found our stuff, and we hope you come back often.

DM: A quick note about how we met, because people ask: Lauren and I met online while we were repped by Kimberley Cameron and Associates back in 2015. Lauren’s OCD, the Dude, and Me was killing it, and I was drawn by her humor and obvious love of all things Lebowski. We started writing back then, and we’ve never stopped.

But we’ve never actually met in person. We keep saying we’re going to hit up a Giants-Mets baseball game one of these days. We even thought about getting together to celebrate signing a representation contract with Jennifer Chevais of The Rights Factory.

We’re still making plans!  Check back here often for posts…maybe even with news of our first meeting.
